Accounts Payable Officers
Islands Petroleum is an independently owned fuel and lubes distributor, and the exclusive distributor for Mobil Fuel and lubricants in PNG. With the head office based in Kokopo, Islands Petroleum also operates bulk fuel depots in Kimbe, Kavieng, Alotau, Popondetta, Orobay and Mt. Hagen, as well as lubes and fuel distribution warehouses in Lae, Port Moresby and Madang.
We are seeking to fill in two roles of Accounts Payable Officers immediately at our Head Office in Kokopo.
Reporting to the Accounts Payable Supervisor and Senior Accountant, the Accounts Payable Officers will perform accounting and clerical duties related to the efficient maintenance and processing of accounts payable transactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, review and verify invoices and check requests.
  • Flag and clarify any unusual or questionable invoice items or prices.
  • Sort, code and match invoices & set invoices up for payment.
  • Enter and upload invoices into system.
  • Track expenses and process expense reports.
  • Prepare and process electronic transfers and payments & perform check runs.
  • Post transactions to journals, ledgers, and other records.
  • Reconcile accounts payable transactions and prepare analysis of accounts.
  • Monitor accounts to ensure payments are up to date.
  • Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues.
  • Maintain vendor files and correspond with vendors and respond to inquiries.
  • Produce monthly reports and assist with month end closing.
  • Provide supporting documentation for audits.
  • Maintain accurate historical records & confidentiality of organizational information.

Job Requirements

  1. Tertiary qualification preferably Diploma in Accounting with 1-2 years accounts payable or general
  2. accounting experience.
  3. Computer literate, information management skills, vendor relationship and able to meet deadlines.
  4. Knowledge of accounts payable, general accounting procedures and relevant knowledge in Pronto
  5. accounting software or similar software.
  6. Proficient in data entry and management. Organizing and prioritizing, attention to detail and
  7. accuracy.
  8. Good in analytical thinking. Problem analysis & problem-solving skills, leadership abilities and excellent organization and prioritizing skills
  9. Good communication skills and able to work independently & effectively with minimal supervision.
  10. Able to maintain high confidentiality, professional integrity, good judgment and teamwork.
