Project Officer – (Goroka Based)
CARE International in PNG is recruiting a Project Officer for its Wanbel Wantaim Project. The Wanbel Wantaim Project’s overall objective is to contribute to improved peace and social cohesion among the various ethnic groups in the Porgera Valley, Enga Province and selected communities in the Eastern Highlands Province. The 30 month-long project is funded by the European Union. Wanbel Wantaim’s key activities include working with communities to identify triggers of conflict and strategies to mitigate violence, support local leaders to facilitate appropriate peace strategies and manage a small community-based grants’ fund. The Melanesian Institute (MI) is a major project partner.It is expected that the project will link communities with relevant partners including government, Churches and other Civil Society Organisations (CSO).
The Project Officer will assist the Project Manager to implement the Wanbel Wantaim Project in accordance with the project design document. A key responsibility will be to collaborate with staff from the Melanesian Institute and participating stakeholders. This role is based in Goroka. However, frequent travel to Highlands’ provinces may be required.
Minimum technical diploma in Peacebuilding, International Development or International Relations. Significant experience may substitute for some education and/or minimum of 3-5 years of relevant field-based experience in co-ordinating or managing light to moderately complex projects required with an international NGO
Good working knowledge of provincial, district and local level structures
Experience in peace building or community development activities and knowledge of good practices is desirable.
Excellent facilitation/training and report writing skills.
Demonstrated experience in following standard policies, procedures and processes and ensure the implementation of basic standard transactions including the management and acquittal of a cash advances.
A willingness to learn about CARE, gender equality and women’s empowerment activities.
Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, sound judgment, planning, problem solving and team building skills.
Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, working in a team and the ability to work under pressure and to organise and manage workload to meet deadlines.
Demonstrated characteristics in honesty, reliability, trustworthiness with the ability to maintain
Demonstrated ability to contribute to group objectives and work effectively in a group setting.
Fluent communication skills in Pidgin and intermediate oral and written English.
Demonstrated experience with facilitation activities for low-literacy communities.
Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel and numerical skills.
